Abstract

Even though many construction firms neglect a formal strategic management system, this does not mean that they lack a strategy or strategic management. Every firm has some specific goals and somehow they achieve them to maintain within the sector. This paper presents a study that aims to classify construction firms in Turkey according to their strategies. For this purpose, a SWOT analysis was applied to 50 large-scaled construction firms to define their current positions and then the correlation with their primary goal was examined. The results revealed that the surveyed firms can be categorized as defenders, prospectors and analyzers according to Miles and Snows’ Strategy Typology.
